Another year, another amazing trip to Myrtle Beach!! We had so much fun this year, every day was full with a new adventure and the kids had a blast. We stayed at the same condo as last year, quite a hidden gem we discovered in Surfside Beach, SC using the VRBO website. This year, we decided to try the Surfside Beach during the day as opposed to the Myrtle Beach State Park like last year and we are so glad that we did.
A few tips if you plan to visit Surfside Beach - there are usually plenty of parking spots if you arrive at or around 9am and the beach isn't crowded at all! Parking is by the hour or $10 for the day, but you can buy a week-long pass for only $40 which is a great deal. There are cute little restaurants, ice cream shops, and snowball stands along the way so don't forget your wallet! Since we head out early, we usually packed lunch and plenty of water and would leave the beach sometime around 1 daily which was just the right amount of time for our family. The kids loved the beach in the am, and then the pool at the condo in the afternoon - so nice to have a pool to use as well!
During the week we enjoyed our favorite spots from last year - Mellow Mushroom, BurgerFi, Coccadotts Cupcake Shop, Broadway at the Beach, and Senior Frogs just to name a few. In the evenings we enjoyed our fro-yo with a visit to the neighboring Krispy Kreme where the hot sign was always magically on :) This year, we also tried a new ice cream shop in North Myrtle called Melt - it was AMAZING, seriously a must have if you are in the area (https://www.facebook.com/CraveMelt).
Activity wise, we kept it to the beach in the morning and pool in the afternoon most days but we did do our annual jet-ski adventure as well as a trip to the movies. The kids wanted to see Cars 3 so we had to drive a ways to find a theater that was still showing it but overall it was a pleasant experience and the kids enjoyed the AC and popcorn. We also enjoyed go-karts right down the street from Broadway at the Beach, there was something for everyone and the lines weren't too bad around 3pm.
We stepped up our Jet-ski game this year and booked well in advance of arriving to make sure that we had a reservation! This year we went to Island Water Adventures located in Little River, SC (http://islandwateradventures.com/), and we were not disappointed! Last year, the boys paid well over $150 for an hour rental right on the beach with another company and they just rode around in circles for an hour, which was not very fun for anyone so this year we did our homework and found Island Water Adventures which took us out into the Ocean. We arrived at the marina and were greeted by the most friendly staff and then we got our life jackets on and headed down to the ski's. I rode with our daughter and my husband and son rode together. We really enjoyed the trip through the inlet, the water was calm and the ride was beautiful with minimal waterway traffic. Once we made it to the mouth of the ocean, the water was a bit rough but that was to be expected when the two bodies of water meet (so says my husband b/c I was not at all prepared for this Moana style adventure). The boys enjoyed some play time in the ocean and my daughter and I turned our ski off and just enjoyed floating until it was time to head back in. I can't say enough about our tour guide Mr. Chris - he was patient, clearly experienced, and so very kind to our family. We will definitely be back next year - the girls will wave to the boys as they ride away next time though and we will enjoy a shopping day instead :)
